Netflix soon to launch cheaper Mobile-Only Plans in India
- Netflix to launch Rs 250 plan in India
- Currently has plans between Rs 500 to Rs 800
- Tough Competition and lower subscribers output resulted Netflix to do so.
Netflix said in March that it is testing a cheaper plan in India. Things going to be real soon after the online-streaming company revealed that there has been a low subscribption this quarter. Two plans are in pipeline including one Rs 250 and Rs 65 weekly plan.
Netflix wants to increase its subs count in the price sensitive country. On wednesday the company revealed “After several months of testing, we’ve decided to roll out a lower-priced mobile-screen plan in India to complement our existing plans,” Netflix said in its earnings report. We believe this plan, which will launch in Q3, will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV ARPU is low (below $5). We will continue to learn more after launch of this plan.”
As of now the company is offering three plans ranging from 500 to 800 based on Quality and no. of screens . On the other hand it has competition from Amazon Prime and Hotstar. Prime video has Rs 999 plan while Hotstar has a a monthly pack of Rs 299. Hotstar has already announced Hotstar VIP featuring Sports and Hindi Entertainment channel at rs 365 earlier.
The New plan will only be on mobile devices and will cost Rs 250 Monthly . A similar Plan of Rs 65 which will be weekly can also be launched.

“We’ve been seeing nice steady increases in engagement with our Indian viewers that we think we can keep building on. Growth in that country is a marathon, so we’re in it for the long haul,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said.
